IE6 Support- Email Exchange with Client
Email to Client:
I want to take a moment to talk about Internet Explorer. I got an email yesterday from XXX saying there were issues with viewing the site using internet explorer. I’ve tested the site in Internet Explorer 7 + and have found it to work bug-free. Unfortunately I do not offer coding suport for IE6 (released in 2001) for numerous reasons.
Here is what wikipedia says:
“This version of Internet Explorer is widely derided for its security issues and lack of support for modern web standards, making frequent appearances in “worst tech products of all time” lists, with some publications labelling it as the “least secure software on the planet.”[2] Campaigns have been established in order to encourage users to upgrade to newer versions of Internet Explorer or switch to different browsers, and some websites have dropped support for IE6 entirely.[3]”
Other web-design firms offer support for this browser, often at a very high premiums. I have a developer who quoted me $950usd to make XXXXX.com IE6 compatible, but warned at a lot of the site’s features would be lost.
I’ve done some research into our analytics and since May 09 IE6 has only sent 59 visits.
