See how Google choses ads based on browser cookie, choose to opt out. →

Clicking the link will bring you to google’s advertising preferences based on your personal cookie.

EDIT—— You can opt out of advertising cookies from all/most networks at this link: http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp

The Back Story:

After searching once on Google for PR sites I found for the next 12 hours I was seeing almost entirely ads for PR companies, even on un-related sites (like Apartment Therapy).

A little disturbed, I clicked on the “ads by Google” link at the bottom right. There was a page touting the google AdWords network, but also a link to my “Personal Advertising Preferences.”

Oh boy.

Apparently associated with my browser cookie is a 3 page long list of categories and terms that decide which ads I see. Best yet, I can opt out of this cookie or pick and choose what type of ads I want to see.

No, I couldn’t opt out of the ads all together but it’s liken it to Burger King. I can have ads served my way.
